Mountains

Great Smoky Mountains, Nantahala National Forest, Pisgah National Forest and Chimney Rock State, and of course the Blue Ridge Parkway are just some of the many beautiful mountain areas in North Carolina. Here you can hike to the top of Grandfather Mountain for some spectacular panoramic views, explore the caves at Linville Falls or get active with white water rafting or rock climbing.

Coast

The North Carolina coastline stretches for 300 miles and is packed with undisturbed, beautiful beaches. Unwind and rejuvenate on the world famous and unique Outer Banks, a collection of beautiful barrier islands stretching 130 miles along. Not to be missed are the beaches of Cape Hatteras, named by Dr Beach as one of America’s Best Beaches 2009 and the Outer Banks Brewing Station in Kill Devil Hills, home to America’s first on-site-powered brew pub. Take a trip to Wilmington, the Asheville of the coast and visit the famous Screen Gem Studios, play a round of golf and learn more about the history of the North Carolina Coast.

Piedmont (heartland)

The Piedmont is home to the state's largest cities; Charlotte with its fantastic skyline and picturesque urban neighborhoods, and Raleigh and Durham which are well known for their world-class museums and live music. Take a trip to the Yadkin Valley and try some locally sourced wine in one of the 20 vineyards found there. For the automobile enthusiast, be sure to experience Lowes motor speedway near Charlotte where you can watch all the NASCAR action and visit the team shops.
